Text Box: The opening meeting of the new 2006—2007 Calendar was kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006. There were 12 members in attendance. We were pleased to have with us 5 first time members. Thank you to Karen Prukop, Raul Gonzalez, Luis E. Ruiz, Wagih Wazni, and William Welch. Special thanks to Luis and Raul who made the trip all the way from Monterrey, Mexico.

The meeting included presentations from the current ASQ Section Chair Oscar Leal on membership and suggestions on how to improve based on national survey results. Perfecto Villarreal also presented the Café Concept Text Box: that a technique promoted by ASQ National for improving communication within the section using some tools that we are familiar with (affinity diagrams, brainstorming, etc.)

There was excellent discussion and ideas on how locally we could improve on membership attendance. Those included:
Use of webcams / net meetings to establish set locations in the various cities represented to minimize the amount of travel required, and allow for increased participation.
Consider designating an Education Chair to develop programs using ASQ
